Reading Lists - Guide to Creating and Editing a Reading List

Welcome to the University's Reading List Management System

The flexible and intuitive Reading Lists system enables teaching staff to easily prepare, manage and share module reading lists. Find detailed instructions in this guide or use the Reading List Mini Guide.

Accessing your reading list

  1. In your Canvas module click Reading List in the left hand navigation pane.
If there is no list for the current semester, you will be prompted to Rollover and update an existing list (e.g. from the previous academic year) or to Create a list from scratch. See Create your module reading list for more guidance.
  2. Alternatively, you can browse or search for your list directly in the reading list system at: https://readinglists.stir.ac.uk.

Integration with Canvas

The system is integrated with Canvas and the Library to give immediate access to library resources, request material not in stock and quickly add or change material on the list at any time. You can copy links to individual items or sections of the list to share elsewhere in the content of your Canvas content or embed an item directly in Canvas.

Library review

Library staff review the lists and ensure any content not in stock is made available or required chapters and articles are digitised under the University’s CLA Digitisation Licence. Students can use the Report Broken link option to tell us if there are problems with any online resources and these will be investigated and resolved urgently.
