Option 3. Cite it! for adding web resources to reading lists

The Cite It! tool is a browser extension which enables you to add external resources such as websites, Amazon records, government documents, YouTube and blogs directly from your browser.

Use Cite it! for content not found with Option 1 - Search the Library or unlikely to be held in the Library.

  • Currently, you can add the Cite it! Browser extension on ChromeEdge or Firefox. See instructions below.
  • If you use Safari or a different browser, you can use the alternative Cite it! Bookmarklet tool. See Option 3b.

Adding the Cite it! Browser Extension to Chrome

  1. Install by searching for Leganto Cite it! Bookmarking Tool on the Chrome Extensions Web Store, or get it directly from this link: https://chromewebstore.google.com/
  2. Click the Add to Chrome Button and then Add extension.
  3. Cite it! will now appear in your browser extensions with the option to pin it to your favorites bar or click the 3 dots ellipsis for further options.

  4. Click the 3 dots ellipsis next to the Cite it! icon and select Options.
  5. You will now see the CiteIt! Configurations and are asked to Enter Leganto URL and should copy and paste the following address: https://stir.alma.exlibrisgroup.com/leganto/parser?institute=44UST_INST&auth=SAML

Adding the Cite it! Browser Extension to Edge

  1. Install by searching for Leganto Cite it! Bookmarking Tool on the Microsoft Edge Add-ons or from Leganto Cite it! Bookmarking Tool - Microsoft Edge Addons.
  2. Click the Get Button and then Add extension.
  3. You will see a pop-up message alerting you that Cite it! has been added to Edge.
  4. Click your browser exensions  in Edge (Jigsaw puzzle icon to the right of the search box).
  5. Click the 3 dots next to the Leganto Citeit! Bookmarking Tool and select Extension Options.
  6. You will now see the CiteIt! Configurations and are asked to Enter Leganto URL and should copy and paste the following address: https://stir.alma.exlibrisgroup.com/leganto/parser?institute=44UST_INST&auth=SAML and Save.

Adding the Cite it! Browser Extension to Firefox

  1. Install the Firefox browser extension by searching for Leganto Cite it! Bookmarking Tool on the Mozilla Firefox Add-ons site or download it directly from Leganto Cite it! Bookmarking Tool.
  2. Select Add to Firefoxm, then Add, then OK
  3. Select the menu ☰ button in the top-right corner.
  4. Select Extensions and Themes (or press Ctrl+Shift+A).
  5. In the left sidebar, select Extensions.
  6. Locate the Cite it! extension in the list and select the ••• button next to it.
  7. Choose Options.
  8. You will now see the CiteIt! Configurations and are asked to Enter Leganto URL and should copy and paste the following address: https://stir.alma.exlibrisgroup.com/leganto/parser?institute=44UST_INST&auth=SAML
  9. Select Save

Using the Cite it! Extension to Add Resources to Your List

  1. Make sure your reading list is open.
  2. Go to the website resource you would like to add to your Reading List and click the Cite It! tool in your browser extensions (click the Jigsaw icon to right of search box and select the Cite it! icon - purple flag with quotation symbol)

  3. The web link and details of the item for the reading list should appear in a popup window.

  4. Edit the details to ensure they are correct and will give a meaningful reference in your reading list (the correct details are not always passed across from the website).
  5. Select your reading list from the 'Select or search for a reading list' box and choose the relevant section if required.
  6. Click the ADD & CLOSE button and the reference will appear in your reading list.

Note: If you don't find your list in the 'Select or search for a reading list' dropdown menu or if your list is long and difficult to navigate to the section, click the Favorites button then Add & Close. Now follow the guidance below.

  1. Select the Add to Favorites option.
  2. Go to back to your reading list and refresh the browser screen (F5 on your keboard)
  3. In your reading list click +Add and select Add from Favorites.
  4. Use the drag handle or the + option to move the item from your favorites list to the correct section of your list.
