Why am I prompted to review EBSCO's Personal Data and Usage Retention policy before accessing some options in EBSCOhost databases?

When accessing any EBSCO database, EBSCO's 'Personal Data Retention and Usage Policy' details will sometimes display if it is your first time accessing these resources following a new update.

This details appears when you are accessing any options that require using a personal MyEBSCOhost account on the EBSCO platform.

You may choose to withdraw consent, but note that you will not then be able to use any of the personalisation features offered by a MyEBSCOhost account.

Personalization with an EBSCO account offers the following:

  • Save items to folders
  • Access saved folders
  • See your search history
  • Checkout books and/or magazines

To support personal accounts, EBSCO’s platform must retain some identifier information to return you to your account each time you log in, such as your university affiliation, your name and your university email address.

The form will look something like the below, if you want to use the MyEBSCOhost account, then you should choose 'Accept':
