Love letters to the Library

Every February in the lead up to Valentines Day, we run 'Love letters to the Library'.

You can pick up some note paper to tell us what you love about the Library and the wider service.  You can also write us a break up letter if you are not feeling the love.  Pop your letters into the sealed box and we very much enjoy reading through them every year.

Here are some of the recent comments we've received:

We had many responses about our staff;

  • "The lovely man at Library reception gave me his blue ballpoint pen because the shop didn't have any. I hope he has a lovely Valentines!"
  • "The staff at lending enquiries are always so lovely. Little interactions with them make my day. I think it's so cute that there are little blankets to borrow in the library. Happy Valentines day"
  • "To Library and IT staff, Thank you for your support and kindness! You go above and beyond to make us all smile. Hope you know that your presense makes this University better"
  • "Dear Library, I love sitting here and reading or studying. You have created such a warm and welcoming space. The views are beautiful and add to the tranquility of the environment. Continue to keep being wonderful. Love you lots from your secret admirer"
  • Dearest Library and IT staff. I can't even begin to thank you for the commitment and compassion you show every time I'm faced with a problem that you solve in 10 seconds.

We also had a lot of positive comments about the library and it’s services. Here are just a few of them;

“You guys are great! I travel here from Glasgow every day to this sanctuary!”
"The energy and environment in the library is wonderful, especially in the wee hours. It feels like the poeple who work here genuinely care! Happy Valentines Day"

"Happy Valentines day ! I just wanted to say that for studying, I absoloutely love the library! When I am here, I can just study, as opposed to the other study areas around campus where I find it more difficult to stay focused. I think that it's brilliant that the library is open until midnight during the week as well. Thank you for this. It's a brilliant study space! It's been really helpful.”
“Happy valentines Babes! So much help”
I love the library keep doing what your doing!
“Happy Valentines day. The library has been my escape zone. Especially thanks to the free books - thanks Diana” I think this student managed to pick up one of our Free Books for the Blind date with a book campaign.
“Y'all are just so cool
”

We only had 3 letters with a warning if we don't pull up our socks they may break up with us, one was about Wi-Fi, the person didn't put their name, but we would have liked to contact them to see if we could help as it may not have been our Wi-Fi but an issue on their device.

Another was about a selfish student who was making business calls from the silent level of the library.  Without being told about this, we wouldn't know, we are always available to tell our users if they need to be quiet, we are librarians off course (shhhhh).

We also received a request to change the Jigsaw as we have had Starry night by Van Gogh out for some time.  We are going to leave it out now and then put out another when we have a free table.  We can still see many people sitting down trying to get this jigsaw finished.

How did we do?
Information Centre - enquiry exit surveys

Every so often we add a link to a very short survey to our responses to your enquiries.  In the survey we ask how satisfied you were with the response given (on a scale) and if you would like to leave any comments.  We aim to achieve a 95% satisfaction rate on satisfaction with enquiries.

Christmas wish tree

Another major feedback event for us is the annual Christmas Wish Tree in the Library.

Loved by staff and students alike, this is your opportunity to feedback on our services, staff, anything to do with our Library community.  Often messages are in the spirit of the season and quite uplifting in nature with students wishing each other luck in exams, wishing for their own success, sending kind messages to others.
