Making the most of AM Explorer: Home

New to AM Explorer?

When using AM Explorer for the first time, click on Collections at the top of the home page to see a list of collections, themes, time periods and regions included in the resource.

Browse the collections to see the sort of material included. Each collection includes an Introduction which tells you about the collection and the archives which house the original documents.

Searching

You can keyword search individual collections or search across the whole resource to see which collections contain relevant material.

Too many results?

Add an additional keyword to narrow your search, e.g. titanic sinking.

Put phrases in inverted commas, e.g. “french revolution”.

If you are searching an individual collection, you can use filters (e.g. date, document type) to narrow your search.

Too few results?

Broaden your search by adding an alternative keyword combined with OR, e.g. imperial OR colonial.

Viewing your search results

Click on the document title or thumbnail image. You should be able to see the parts of the document which contain your search terms, or you can download the entire document as a PDF.
